Hello!
I’m Sarah, a surface pattern designer and Social Worker living in Barcelona, Spain. I launched my art business when I moved here from the US. I moved with my husband, two little boys, cat, and dog Wren. (As you can see, Wren accompanies me as I work and always offers enthusiastic feedback.)
My last name comes from the same region of Europe as my new home in Barcelona. It derives from the Latin root word evolar, meaning “to fly away”. So Evolation was the perfect name for this business which began with a journey across the ocean and a leap of faith into new ventures.
My work is a combination of pen and ink line art, digital art, and watercolor that reflects my appreciation for irony and curiosity about the idiosyncrasies of our world. Since childhood I have been drawn to animals and insects, wanting to be a vet or an entomologist when I grew up. I enjoy celebrating all that is strange and wonderful about nature in my art.
Moving to Europe has opened up a new world of possibility for travel, especially by train (my favorite!), which is often an inspiration for my pattern collections. Patterns turn inward as well, to appreciate the small meditative joys of a warm cup of tea, silly pets, or rain tinkling outside. Whatever they celebrate, I approach each pattern with a slow hand and careful eye, in order to craft something for you that is intriguing and one of a kind.
